In an article i read about obesity and pregnancy called "Obesity and diabetes link to child disorders" i learned that Obese women and those with Type 2 diabetes could be increasing their chances of having a child with autism or another development disorder. In California,1.3% of women have Type 2 diabetes and 7.4% have diabetes which developed during pregnancy. that suprised me because i never thought that you could get diabetes while being pregnant. i never knew how much weight you gained or how much you weighed period mattered when you are pregnant. 9.3% of the children with mothers with type 2 diabetes have autism and also 11.6% of that group have some type of a disability. i feel that this is a shame because those children did not do anything to deserve those things. and neither did those mothers, some women have weight problems that are very very hard to deal with and sometimes they don't try to help it or make it better than some just try then give up then when they get pregnant they could be one of those people who deal with the scare of something being wrong with their children. In the US, the study noted that 34% of women of child-bearing age are obese and nearly 9% are diabetic. i feel like people should be more aware of this and if women are preparing to become pregnant they should loose weight and try to be as healthy as possible.
